Llandovery & Llandeilo

Everything you need to know...

Llandeilo

Llandeilo sits on a hilltop above the River Tywi and is graced with Georgian and Victorian buildings which are home to cafés, galleries, shops and boutique hotels. Llandeilo is a perfect location to explore the West of the Brecon Beacons and Carmarthenshire.

Llandovery

A peaceful market town with trains to Swansea, independent shops and a supermarket. 30,000 animals a year used to be driven through here and its droving past is commemorated in road names and a statue. The statue that will probably catch your eye though is 16 feet high, gleaming, stainless steel representation of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd Fychan who met a particularly gruesome end in 1401 at the hands of the English army after leading them a merry dance to protect his son and Owain Glyndwr.

Where to stay...

You will find family-run bed and breakfasts, luxury hotels and the very best self-catering, glamping and camping sites.

Where to eat...

Llandovery is well served with cafés and pubs. Wander around the cobbled streets of the town centre to find The Castle Hotel and enjoy their fantastic food and surroundings.

From Llandeilo, drive down Bethlehem road, park at Garn Goch hillfort car park and admire the splendid views towards the village of Bethlehem (inundated in December with people posting Christmas cards to get the Bethlehem stamp).

For cyclists, a cycle route (Cycle across the Beacons) starts at Llandeilo Railway Station, and finishes in Abergavenny on the other side of the National Park. www.breconbeacons.org/things-to do/activities/cycling-mountain-biking/road-routes/cycle-across-the-beacons
