Activities
Take a stroll by the river Usk, walk along the promenade and onto the Gurkha Path - so called because it was restored by families and retired members of the Gurkha regiment stationed in Brecon. The Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal starts in Brecon at the canal basin and there are loads of ways to explore:
Walk along the tow path from Brecon down to Brynich Lock and watch the canal boats negotiate the lock. Take a trip on the Dragonfly cruise boat from the canal basin to Brynich Lock. You can hire an electric boat to explore the canal for the day or even hire a kayak if you want to get some exercise.
Cycle along the tow path (you can hire a bike). You can cycle to a pub or café in nearby villages - Pencelli (Royal Oak), Talybont on Usk (pubs and café) or Llangynidr (the Coach & Horses) depending how energetic you are feeling. Brecon boasts two golf courses - Brecon and Cradoc. Cantref Adventure Farm is great for young children and families and if there are any horse riders in your group they offer treks onto the slopes the Central Beacons.
Shopping Brecon has a variety of gift shops, ideal place to find something unique to take back home or buy gifts and some great shops for outdoor clothing.
Explore Visit the Cathedral - one of only six in Wales, it has a lovely tea room. Check out Y Gaer Museum, Art Gallery & Library in the centre of town or head down to the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh on the Watton to learn more about the battle of Rorkes Drift which was made into the film Zulu.
Events Brecon boasts renowned music events like the Brecon Jazz Festival and Brecon Baroque Festival, not forgetting the ever popular Brecon County Show.
