Crickhowell 

Crickhowell boasts a hugely popular Georgian high street with charming, independent shops. There is a castle and a bridge with more arches on one side than the other (check it out!). 


Abergavenny 

Abergavenny is a larger market town with a railway connection to Bristol, Newport and Cardiff. Supermarkets, takeaways and a covered market that also houses the Tourist Information Centre.

You will find family-run bed and breakfasts, luxury hotels and the very best self-catering, glamping and camping sites. 

Where to eat...

The Nantyfiin Cider Mill, The Manor and The Dragon Inn serve great food using the best local produce or the world-famous Bear Hotel in Crickhowell. There is a café culture in both towns, try the Copper Kettle Tearoom on the outskirts of Abergavenny. 

What to do...

Activities

Walk up Table Mountain in Crickhowell, from Abergavenny, The Skirrid, The Blorenge or the The Sugar Loaf - ask in the Tourist information centre for directions. Culture vultures visit St Mary’s Priory and Tithe Barn in Abergavenny. 


Both towns have a ruined castle and you can walk/picnic in the fields by the river at both. If you fancy a scenic drive then take a trip from Crickhowell to Talgarth - visiting the lovely, medieval Tretower Court and Castle en route. Alternatively, drive through Llanthony Valley towards Hay-on-Wye via the romantic, ruined 13th Century Llanthony Priory. 

Activities Hire a bike and cycle along the canal or up into the hills. If you prefer a challenge go riding at Grange Trekking or the Pontypool and Blaenavon Heritage Railway is only a short drive away at the Heritage site showcasing South Wales' mining past.

Shopping Crickhowell High Street - winner of UK’s best High Street in 2018. Drop into Webb’s family run department store, Cashell’s butchers and delicatessen among many others. Make sure you roam through Abergavenny’s pedestrianised town centre and find the covered market with Market Days on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

Head over to Abergavenny and either walk around the Blorenge, visit the grave of a horse who was world famous in his day – Foxhunter the showjumper or explore Abergavenny visiting the Tithe Barn and St Mary’s Priory. On Tuesdays and Saturdays visit the covered market.


12:30-14:00

Lunch at Penelope’s Café at Goytre Wharf and then take a trip on a community run canal boat


13:00-16:00

Stroll through Crickhowell and pop into the unique range of indy shops.


19:00-21:00

Enjoy an evening meal at The Bear, the Nantyffin Cider Mill or the Farmers Arms, Cwmdu.
